After exalted Mayan culture mysteriously vanished in time, the Tulum name (“Wall” in Maya) was given to this awesome only walled site by the later Mayan people. The original site name was “Zama”, meaning “Dawn” or “Rising Sun God”, since it was conceived to worship “Kukulcan” god (“The Plumed or Flying Serpent” the sun god), at the extreme east of the Yucatan peninsula, on a cliff, overlooking an amazing Caribbean Sea, first place in Mexico to see the sun rise.
Tulum was erected during the Post-Classic period, boasting the famous advanced Mayan un-lead construction style (the upper side wider than the lower side). Tulum Constructions were the first buildings spotted in continental America by the Spaniards, described as “magnificent towers covered with gold”
