Strategically located at the Yucatan Riviera Maya, Xplor resembles the Garden Eden. The northern half of the Yucatan Peninsula emerged 3.5 millions of years ago, from a shallow water Caribbean ocean, therefore covered with a thick layer of lime rock formed by ancient coral reefs dating from the Crustaceous Period. During the Glacial Age, the ocean level was 120 meters (390 feet) lower, and during thousands of years rain water found its way through lime rock forming underground brooks, underground rivers, extensive wetlands and hundreds of caverns with stalactites and stalagmites, now flooded since rain fresh water drain is slowed down by the actual ocean level.
